The Framework
A structured leadership model built for real workplaces—not boardrooms. Each pillar addresses a critical gap in how safety is practiced in the field.
Recognize hazards before they become incidents. Build a culture of constant situational awareness.
Every person owns their role in safety. No bystanders, no excuses—only accountability.
Safety starts at the top and lives in the field. Leaders set the standard every single day.
Clear, direct, and timely communication prevents misunderstandings that cost lives.
Equip supervisors to make the right call under pressure—especially when no one is watching.
Systems that hold people responsible create cultures where safety is non-negotiable.
Core Framework
Five foundational elements that work together to protect people, ensure compliance, and drive lasting safety culture.
Visible commitment from owners, managers, and supervisors that makes safety a core value. Strong leadership sets expectations, provides resources, and leads by example every day.
The day-to-day practice of identifying hazards, assessing risks, and taking action to prevent injuries, illnesses, and operational losses through procedures, training, and worker involvement.
Understanding and complying with occupational health and safety laws, standards, codes, and company policies to protect workers, reduce liability, and maintain legally sound operations.
Understanding what happened, why it happened, and how to prevent recurrence. Focused on identifying root causes and correcting system weaknesses — not assigning blame.
Preparing for, responding to, and recovering from unexpected events. Includes emergency plans, roles, communication procedures, drills, and coordination with outside responders.
See how all five topics integrate into a complete, field-tested safety leadership program.

The Founder
Douglas Tatlow has spent almost five decades working in and around the most demanding industrial environments in North America, Russia and China—oil & gas, construction, manufacturing, pipeline construction and operations, civil construction, plant site and mining operations.
He's seen what happens when safety is treated as a compliance exercise. He's also seen what's possible when leaders take genuine ownership. The Safety Principles system was built from that experience—practical, field-tested, and designed to create lasting change in how teams operate.
Results
"Douglas doesn't just teach safety—he changes how your supervisors think. After the workshop, our team started having conversations we'd never had before. The culture shift was real."
